INJUNCTIONS
Husbands, wives, co-habitees and other persons can apply to the Court for injunctions. These can take many different forms and the level of protection that you need will depend on the circumstances of your case. In some instances a warning letter to the other party will have the desired effect and the unacceptable behaviour will usually stop. In other cases however it will be necessary to take more forceful action to give you the appropriate protection. This will involve an application to the Court.

An injunction can stop a person from verbally abusing, harassing or assaulting you or children.

In some cases injunctions can force a person to leave a property or keep them away from it.

The Court has additional powers to back up its orders with a power of arrest which will allow the Police to arrest the other party if there is an allegation that the injunction has been breached. Where an order is made in relation to the occupation of a property, the Court can also make Orders about payment of household bills.

We have a zero tolerance view in relation to violence, threats of violence and harassment. We do not see any act as acceptable or understandable. There is no excuse and we will ensure that you get an appropriate level of protection to make sure there is no repetition.
